THE ISSUE

Canada is being excluded from TikTok’s commerce and earning ecosystem.

Monetize The North is raising awareness around a specific issue: Canadians do not have equal access to TikTok Shop, the TikTok Shop Affiliate Program, and the TikTok Creator Rewards Program available in other markets.

This exclusion affects product-based businesses, aspiring entrepreneurs, affiliate creators, small brands, creators, and Canadians looking for modern ways to earn income in a changing economy.

Canada should not be locked out of tools helping people and businesses around the world sell, promote, earn, and grow.

THE ACCESS GAP

Canada is not asking for special treatment. Canada is asking for equal access.

TikTok Shop is available in markets including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, Ireland, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines — but Canada remains excluded.

That means Canadian businesses, affiliates, creators, and entrepreneurs are watching other markets access tools that are still unavailable here. Bottom line, Canada deserves equal access.

TIKTOK SHOP

Canadian businesses are locked out of a major social commerce channel.

TikTok Shop is reshaping ecommerce by turning content into commerce. In other markets, businesses can sell products directly through TikTok, where videos, livestreams, creator affiliates, and viral content can drive product discovery and real-time sales.

This is more than a social media feature. It is a rapidly emerging, high-growth sales channel changing how brands reach customers, launch products, and compete online.

In the U.S., TikTok Shop is projected to reach $23.41 billion in ecommerce sales in 2026, a 48% increase year over year. By 2030, ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, is projected to become one of the world’s largest retailers — a clear signal that TikTok Shop is becoming a serious force in global ecommerce.

TikTok is also building the infrastructure behind the sale. Similar to the fulfillment model that helped make Amazon dominant, Fulfilled by TikTok handles storage, packing, and shipping for sellers, while TikTok Shipping is designed to simplify domestic shipping and reduce seller costs.

For Canadian businesses, being excluded means missing access to a modern sales engine that could help brands reach new audiences, generate demand, and compete in the future of commerce.

Canadian businesses deserve the same tools to sell, scale, and succeed.

AFFILIATE COMMERCE

Canadians are locked out of the TikTok Shop Affiliate Program.

Without access to TikTok Shop, Canadians are by default excluded from the TikTok Shop Affiliate Program — one of the most powerful income pathways connected to the platform.

In other markets like the U.S., new and established creators, along with everyday people like moms and retirees, are earning commissions by promoting TikTok Shop products through shoppable content.

Across TikTok Shop affiliate communities, some creators publicly share earnings ranging from $10,000 to $50,000 per month, with some reporting six-figure monthly commissions and millions in TikTok Shop sales generated per year.

Behind those numbers are real people using social commerce to change their financial reality — supplementing income, supporting families, building independence, and creating new opportunities.

Meanwhile, countless Canadians are struggling to find stable employment, keep up with the rising cost of living, and maintain a basic standard of life. Canada has millions of TikTok users and a large, and growing creator economy, yet Canadians remain locked out of the tools that could help them access an
income pathway already changing lives elsewhere.

That should not be acceptable.

CREATOR REWARDS

Canadian creators are excluded from the TikTok Creator Rewards Program.

Canadian creators contribute content, culture, engagement, and value to TikTok.

Without access to the TikTok Creator Rewards Program, they are missing the chance to earn income from the creative work they produce.

While paid-view monetization may not be the largest opportunity within TikTok’s earning ecosystem, Canada’s exclusion from the program points to a bigger problem — Canadian creators help fuel the platform, yet they are left out of earning tools available to creators in several other markets.

Equal digital rights and inclusion matter.

WHY IT MATTERS

This is a major economic opportunity issue.

Canada’s exclusion from TikTok’s commerce and earning ecosystem has always been unreasonable — and today’s economic reality makes that exclusion even more unacceptable.

The cost of living is high. Job security is less certain. Businesses are under pressure. Many industries are being reshaped by automation, artificial intelligence, restructuring, and layoffs.

Canadians are looking for new ways to earn income, launch businesses, sell products, build audiences, and create independent revenue streams.

These tools could help open new income pathways, support Canadian businesses, strengthen digital entrepreneurship, and ensure Canada is not left behind in the future of commerce.

When Canadians have more ways to earn, they have more ability to support their families, afford basic needs, invest in their businesses, and contribute back into the economy.

At its core, this is about equal access to tools that already exist — for a Canadian society that is ready, capable, and willing to use them.

Equal access. Equal opportunity. Equal playing field.
